Before COVID-19 hit, we were in discussions with Lisl Ponger, a Vienna based visual artist and film-maker, about curating a mini film festival for us. And, of course, we’ve pressed the pause button. But Lisl has responded to the challenge of the new way of life by curating a virtual festival for us, with a different programme each week.
Fine-art photographer Natalie Lennard has created Birth Undisturbed, a fictional narrative photography series that brings scenes of natural childbirth into cinematic fine-art tableaux. Spotlighting women of history from the Virgin Mary to the Queen, the series is partly inspired by the artist’s own experiences of birth, loss and motherhood.

Photographic historian and researcher, Rose Tearnby ARPS, is nominating women for the #100HistoricalHeroines campaign, shining a light on pre-1860 women who pioneered the new photographic art but rarely receive attention. These women were inspirational as photographers but also a timely reminder of the social restrictions and discrimination of their day.
