Elena Helfrecht was born in Germany and is based in London. In 2014 she graduated in Art History and Book Science at Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen and is enrolled in the Master’s Programme of Photography at the Royal College of Art from 2017 to 2019.

“My images are intimate, about issues and citizens I deeply care about. I believe photographs may not be capable of doing the moral work for us, but they can trigger the process of social consciousness.” 

Through her phone, Nancy captures scenes of beauty and the everyday lives of her children and grandchildren that she wouldn’t otherwise be able to see with the limits of her naked eye.

Through the power of photography, I believe that we can change the public’s fear of sharks to respect, and maybe even love.
