The only UK charity advancing awareness of women in photography.
Our vision is for exceptional women in photography– past, present and future – to be widely recognised and celebrated. We champion the work of women photographers worldwide and encourage diverse representation across cultural programming.
By connecting more people with the inspirational visual imagery of these women, we can ensure that photography truly reflects our diverse societies and encourage emerging creative talent.

We’ve heard that yarn bombing is a favourite WI activity!
We’re showing an exhibition on Bus Stops in Oxford (15th October – 15th November) and some knitted artwork would really brighten up the surroundings. The six Bus Stops are situated around the borough:
PS: For safety and security, we must ensure any installation of artwork does not block the line of sight from security cameras to the inside of the bus stops!
1st to 21st November
The Grange Museum & Art Gallery, The Green, Rottingdean, East Sussex, BN2 7HA

On their recent list of digital content ‘Better than Netflix’, Deutsche Bank ArtMag described Hundred Heroines as: “An overdue voyage of discovery for any art photography aficionado.”
This led us to think about the process of curating our own ‘Voyages of Discovery’ – mini virtual tours around the website.
We’re inviting you to curate – and share – your own personal voyage, based around a theme of your choosing, for inclusion on our website as part of our Compendium of Voyages.
We are particularly interested in showing how Heroines’ work can be used for positive change and how it sits within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For your own Voyage of Discovery, think about how you can choose one or two of these goals for the theme; for example, the content you curate might revolve around ‘Wellbeing’ (goal 3) or ‘Infrastructure’ (goal 9). The goal might link to your Voyage directly, or in an abstract way. If you’re not sure it links to any of the UN Goals, think about how it links to Gender Equality (goal 5). Women are underrepresented in cultural programming – your Voyage is helping to address this imbalance!
If you’re interested in getting involved with the work of Hundred Heroines, we’d love to hear from you!
We’re thrilled that you’re here and look forward to working with you on all sorts of initiatives, advocacy and events, as well as having some fun along the way.
This page is dedicated to WI members and it’s where we’ll post events, opportunities, calls to action and our creative projects. Anything you can do to help spread the creativity word would be greatly appreciated!
We’ll be running a special Bootcamp for WI members later in the year, which will be a chance to meet international artists, curate your own exhibition and create learning resources for schools. In the meantime, why not enjoy a browse around the site? Voyages of Discovery (details below) is a good starting point and if you want to create your own voyage, we’d be delighted to add it to the page.
Any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us (del@hundredheroines.org or 07831 487606), and we look forward to meeting you soon!
