Rahima Gambo
Nigerian artist and photographer
Nigerian artist and photographer, Rahima Gambo incorporates sculpture, installation, film and performance in her work, to explore socio-political, psycho-spiritual and autobiographical themes. She is currently working with rehabilitative, moving photography, exploring the experimental capabilities of ‘walking’ as it accords with these ideas through her project, A Walk.
In 2020 she was named a FOAM talent and her work was exhibited at Foam Talent Paris and Berlin respectively. In the same year, she showed work at the Yokohama Triennale, the Mercosul Biennale, and also in Amsterdam, Berlin and Switzerland. Rahima completed a residency at Operndorf Afrika in Burkina Faso this February, and she was part of a group exhibition, This memory is not my own, at the Galerie Cécile Fakhoury in Dakar, Sénégal which closed in March.
In her praxis, Rahima moves away from traditional photojournalism, exploring new methods of visual storytelling, exposing the limitations of relying on one method of reporting.
