Nigerian artist and photographer
Artist and photographer, Rahima Gambo incorporates sculpture, installation and performance in her work to explore socio-political, psycho-spiritual and autobiographical themes. She is currently working with rehabilitative, moving photography, through the experimental capabilities of ‘walking’ as it accords with these ideas.
This year she was named a FOAM talent and her work is currently being displayed as part of The Coalmine’s Resisting Images, Images Responding exhibition, which focuses on the role of images in narrative strategy and the effect of their reproduction and circulation. Rahima focuses on the conflict in northern areas of her home country Nigeria. She moves away from traditional photojournalism, exploring new methods of visual storytelling and exposing the limitations of relying on one method of reporting.
