Nikki S Lee (b.1970) is a Korean photographer, living and working in Seoul. Alongside her Photography MA at NYU, Nikki produced some of her most famous work, Projects (1997-2001), using her signature disposable film camera to capture authentic on-the-street shots of American and Korean subcultures. In each of these projects, Nikki is photographed alongside her subjects as one of the group; a part of their collective identity, if only for a moment. Nikki’s work primarily focuses on identity, exploring its performance and changeability.
Nikki’s work is exhibited across the world, and is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles), the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (Washington, D.C), the International Center of Photography (New York), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Japan).
