Become a Hundred Heroines Volunteer!

It’s no secret that charities wouldn’t survive without volunteers and advocates. If you’re looking to donate some time to Hundred Heroines, whether that’s promoting women in photography through writing or getting stuck in at our Nailsworth location, read on!

Interested but maybe unsure of what it might involve? Take a look at our current opportunities, volunteer diaries or email us for more information. Likewise if you can volunteer any expertise or a particular skill beyond those listed here.

Current Opportunities

We’re looking for volunteers! Fill out the form below if any of the following roles appeal to you.

Cultural Volunteer

As a hands-on cultural volunteer, you will be available to donate a few hours a month to the Hundred Heroines Museum, located in Nailsworth. Here you’ll be a representative and advocate for the work we do and the work of the  Heroines. This is a unique opportunity to be immersed in art while championing women photographers. This role is perfect for a passionate person who is excited about bringing culture and photography to the forefront in Gloucestershire. We ask for a minimum of one shift per month, and this can be a regular shift at a fixed time or flexible each month to suit your diary.  And, of course, you’re welcome to sign up for more than one!

Responsibilities include:

  • Meet & Greet visitors
  • Leading group tours (full training given)
  • Serving in the (very) small shop

We operate 2 shifts – 10:00 to 13:00 and 13:00 to 16:00 – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Micro Volunteers

As a micro-volunteer, you have the flexibility to donate as little or as much of your time as you want and whenever you want. You can either volunteer remotely or from the museum.  The actual tasks depend what we need on the day and these are listed on the Volunteer Portal, which all volunteers can access.  It can be something as simple as distributing leaflets to sharing a blog post on social media or even shopping on EBay.  There’s no ongoing commitment, you simply dip in and out whenever you like and it really helps expand our reach and increase our audience, allowing us to gain more momentum through you

Volunteer Newsletter Editor

We are looking for a volunteer to produce the monthly newsletter for volunteers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Putting together the newsletter using MailChimp
  • Liaising with the volunteers to find stories
  • Interviewing the volunteers
  • Liaising with the team to keep abreast of events and news
  • Producing copy and images for the newsletter

Estimated 2 days per month

Content Creator

A content creator is someone who loves research, has a keen eye for grammar and is looking to get their written work published. It helps if you’re familiar with our Heroines or if you love trips to your local gallery. Jobs often include writing photographer profiles, exhibition reviews and creative writing. This volunteer role can be remote-based and suits those who are keen writers or those who want to dabble in a creative outlet. In exchange for your time; you will have work published and promoted on our site and social platforms, have writing resources available to you and have an editor to go through your work to help you create the perfect piece.

Reasonable expenses will be paid.  Most roles can be carried out remotely.
