Aïda Muluneh
Ethiopian photographer
Award-winning Ethiopian photographer, Aïda Muluneh uses bold primary colours and traditional African body paint to focus on women’s experiences and to challenge the singular image of Africa as an impoverished and corrupt continent.
Aïda has recently collaborated with WaterAid for ‘Water Life’, a series focusing on the effects of living without clean water on women’s lives. Aïda’s work was also recently featured in the ‘I am: Contemporary Women Artists of Africa’ exhibition at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, where her work is part of their permanent collection.
Aïda is the founder of the biennial Addis Foto Festival (AFF), which is the first international photography festival in East Africa. The next AFF was scheduled to take place in December 2020 but has been postponed until 2021.
