The photographic work by women from different times and places is the content of this programme.
Nan Goldin, a US-American photographer talks about Margaret Cameron’s work. She is considered one of the most important portraitists of the 19th century, producing around 900 photographs. This is followed by Nan Goldin’s own work in her book that celebrates the lives of her transgender friends in the 1970es and Joana Choumali, based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, who uses photography to explore gender, identity and the diversity of Africa. Cindy Sherman, a US-American artist became famous with Complete Untitled Film Stills, her black and white self-portraits, a re-enactment of various roles women played in different films. Rahima Gambo, a Nigerian artist uses photography as means of visual storytelling among other media such as text, video, sculpture and installation. Lisette Model (1901 –1983) was an Austrian-born American photographer, who is best known for her street photography having an eye for the peculiarities of average people in everyday situations.
