Making Masks with Lisl Ponger; Image – still from film

Visiting artist Lisl Ponger led a dynamic mask-making workshop with local A-Level art students, who drew inspiration from Lisl’s own acclaimed use of masks in photography and film. Over the course of the session, students explored identity, transformation and storytelling through the act of making. Each participant designed and constructed a mask that reflected an aspect of self or imagination, then collaborated to create portraits of one another wearing their creations.

This short film by Lisl captures the final results – a playful and thought-provoking collection of images that blur the boundaries between the real and the performed.
