We’re thrilled that Helen Pankhurst is supporting our campaign. Following in the footsteps of her grandmother (Sylvia) and great-grandmother (Emmeline), Helen is a passionate advocate for women’s rights. She is currently working in the UK and Ethiopia as senior adviser to CARE International.
Speaking about Hundred Heroines, she said: “What a wonderful way to mark the centenary of women’s suffrage. If my grandmother and great-grandmother were able to come back and look at the world today, I think they would be heartened by much of the progress in women’s rights. […]However, they would also be spurring us on, highlighting how much we still have to do – given ongoing levels of gender inequality in almost all spheres.”
It seemed only fitting that we should ask Helen to make the first nomination, but we’re keeping the name under wraps until the campaign launches. Stay tuned to find out who she’s chosen …
