From Being Inbetween, which is a continually evolving series of photographic portraits of girls aged between ten and twelve, exploring the complex transition between childhood and young adulthood. The work arises from my own memories of being this age and the desire to give voice and faces to the young women who inevitably must pass through these mysterious hinterlands on their journey towards adulthood.
“I love writing, my family, and I love one of my clubs that I go to, it’s called story tellers, and as a group you read a book, then you write about the book, then write a story linked to the book.
When I am adult, I want to be an author, and maybe I want to set up a business to help children who are different to us, like either in foster families, or who are in care, or who have a disability.
My ambition is to become a really famous author and do shows , and help other children to feel that they are not alone.
I have Craniosynostosis; When I was a baby the bones in my head had already fused together. When I was 6 months I had to have an operation when the doctors had to pull apart my bones. Then I had to have an operation when I was one year old.
When I was in reception to year 5, the teachers used to walk around with me all the time in the playground, they were being very protective, and I didn’t like that, so me and my friends used to run around and hide in the shed. They kept on asking my friends “where’s Alice, where’s Alice?”
My wish is to visit the rain forest. I imagine it to be tropical and I would love the smell of it. “
