Harry Belafonte by Dorothy Wilding
Mr & Mrs Whose Name?
We have an incredible collection of tear-sheets, from magazines like The Sketch and Tatler, by Dorothy Wilding and her contemporaries. We’re still staggered at how little identity women are allowed, usually being framed by the men in their lives. But what if things had been the other way around? Would readers have recognised Mr Marguerite Byrd?
Sarah Grant, expert on all things Dorothy, is curating a new display, a commentary on women’s identity through the lens of Dorothy Wilding and the pen of Tonia Collett, who will be creating new captions for the men and returning the debutantes’ identities to their rightful owners.
