Exploring Feminist Connections To The Natural World
We’re thrilled to be part of Art History Festival 2025! Join us at the museum from September 11 for a captivating new display drawn from the Hundred Heroines Collection, celebrating the many ways women photographers and artists have engaged with nature across time and media.
From the delicate blue hues of cyanotypes that echo the chemistry of sun and leaf, through the mystical landscapes of Anne Brigman, to Renate Bertlmann’s provocative Knife Rose, this display invites you to explore nature through a feminist lens and join the conversation about eco-feminism. Alongside the display, take part in hands-on creative sessions inspired by these works, including cyanotype printing, nature-based mark-making, Dada inspired nature collage and creating a nature-based stained “glass” window. And if you just want to reflect, have a seat in the library and browse the curated selection of books about nature and art.
Objects on display include works by Anne Brigman, Anne Zahalka, Fay Godwin, Joy Gregory, Karen Knorr, Sophie Rickett, Sudan Derges, Vanessa Winship and Wendy McMurdo.
In addition to our normal museum opening hours (Thurs – Sat: 11:00 – 16:00) we will be open on Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th September 10:00 – 15:00 & Sunday 28th September 11:00 – 16:00
** Timetable for creative sessions will be published here on Saturday 6th September **
This event is part of Art History Festival 2025 organised by the Association for Art History
