The Great Train Tapestry batik workshop by Zariq
As part of our Great Train Tapestry project, Zariq Rosita Hanif will be leading a workshop using batik to create panels for the final piece!
Friday, 3rd November: 15:00 – 17:00
Eastgate Centre, Gloucester, GL1 1AG (11 Bell Walk & the Hundred Heroines Museum on the first floor)
Thanks to the GWR Community Fund and Canon, we’re ready to embark on the next leg of the exciting journey towards the Great Train Tapestry – a textile-based, contemporary artwork facilitated by Lisl Ponger. This phase involves a number of workshops and open access sessions to produce the panels.
This workshop will be led by Zariq and is suitable for beginners. You will use tjanting tools to create wax designs, which resist fabric dyes, relating to trains, transport, women, labour and photography. Your finished panels will then be considered for inclusion in the final design.
This project was inspired by the Bootcampers who took part in the GWR Women in Rail Bootcamp Initiative. It is open to women and non-binary identities.
Free entry – all welcome.
