Debra Klomp Ching

Debra Klomp Ching is the Co-Owner of the Klompching Gallery, representing an international roster of artists including Helen Sear, Max de Esteban, Odette England, Diane Meyer and Jim Naughten among others. In addition to owning and operating the gallery, she is a freelance consultant, writer, curator and educator.

Her writing has been published in Magenta Magazine, photo-eye Booklist, (re)collect, Nahtsellen, At Length and PDN. She was a Guest Editor for Photography Quarterly (issue No. 99) and was the commissioning Editor/Publisher of (re)collect – Jonathan Shaw (2006). In 2010 she co-curated (with Darren Ching), The Architecture of Space, an exhibition of contemporary U.S. photography for the Flash Forward Festival (Toronto).

She is an experienced portfolio reviewer, having attended several notable photography review festivals such as Rhubarb-Rhubarb, FotoFest, Review Santa Fe, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, New York Times Portfolio Review Day and Photolucida. She is also a regular judge for photography awards and competitions, including the recent LensCulture Emerging Talent Award (2017), San Francisco Bay International Photography Show (2018) and the Arnold Newman Portrait Award (2018).

As a private consultant, she provides creative and professional advice to photographers working within a fine art context, and advises collectors on the acquisition of contemporary photography.

She has lectured on the History of Photography at the University of Derby (UK), Coventry University (UK), and is currently Adjunct Faculty at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has been a guest speaker and critic at Snow College, RISD and MICA. Debra Klomp Ching holds a BA (Hons) in Photographic Studies and an MA in Critical History and Theory of Photography.
