Being Inbetween: Carolyn Mendelsohn
Carolyn Mendelsohn is a known portrait photographer who uses photography, film and sound to bring to life creative ideas within a person, their location and their story. Carolyn’s project ‘Being Inbetween’ is currently being exhibited as part of Representation on the Line: (Un)framing Our Identities at HIVE in Blackpool.
Alongside this, one of her images shown, although not from her project, is a winner in the Portrait of Britain.
‘Being Inbetween’ looks at the age between girlhood and young-adulthood, drawing on past memories of her upbringing and giving a voice to young women who must pass through these mysterious hinterlands on their journey into adulthood. The project will become a published and printed book in late 2019 by Colin Wilkonson’s Bluecoat Press.

Also in conversation with Carolyn will be fellow heroine, Claire Walmsley Griffiths, creator of the ‘Time and Tide: The Retired Performers Project’. The project, supported by Arts Council England, The Winter Gardens Blackpool and Leftcoast Creative People and Places, follows performers who worked prior to the 70s, at home, at old performance locations, over audio and more, over the 12 months of 2018.
