Women's History Month

Women’s History Month

Each year, March is designated Women’s History Month in the US, UK and Australia. According to Women’s History it is a relatively recent tradition that started as a designated week in 1980.  Bizarrely, in the US, its continued designation relies on Presidential proclamation.

International Women’s Day falls on 8 March and it’s been around a lot longer – since 1911.  Read more about its history on the International Women’s Day website.

We celebrate women’s history every month and every day, and step up the pace in March, when we hope that the messaging around the importance of women to photography, the arts and beyond falls on fewer deaf ears …
