Now, imagine you are an artist who has had an excellent idea for an installation about home – you want to pitch your idea to a gallery. In order to persuade them to exhibit your work, you have to prepare a proposal.
In your proposal, you should include:
- Photographs (or sketches) of the objects you intend to install, including close-ups of their materials and textures.
- A 100-word artist statement about your work.
Artists write descriptions of their work to give viewers a better understanding of it. Artists’ statements are printed on gallery walls, in exhibition handouts and used in press releases.
In your artist statement, explain:
- The main idea behind your installation.
- How the objects/patterns/colours/textures you use represent your experiences or feelings about home.
- What you want audiences to think, feel or understand when they see your installation.
