Great Expectations

Jenevieve’s photographic response to the Dickensian novel

Jenevieve joins us via zoom in the Glo Lounge to talk about her work Inspired by the classic Victorian novel, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.  The series looks at the ripple effect of Miss Havisham being jilted at the altar.  Immersing herself in the story and re-interpreting it through a contemporary African-Nigerian lens, Jenevieve raises questions about marriage as an institution, particularly its relationship to love, happiness and friendship.

“I imagine a situation where Miss Havisham marries and lives a sad, miserable and largely unfulfilled life”
