Keynote talk and round-table conversation about Ellen’s cutting edge experimental photography
Following a keynote talk about her work, Ellen invites friends Claire Raymond and John Reuter for a round-table conversation about Ellen’s experimental approach to photography – how it started, who influenced her (spoiler alert – one of the great British women in photography pioneers), how she works with a 20 x 24 Polaroid camera, as well as wider questions about the intersection of the art and science of photography. Ellen’s work will be on display throughout the festival.
Claire Raymond Having earned a doctorate in English literature from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a bachelors in Philosophy from Yale University, Claire Raymond is now based in coastal Maine, instructing for the University of Maine and the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. A poet and a scholar, Claire focuses her writing on feminist and decolonialist activism.
John Reuter A photographer since the early 1970s, John Reuter specialises in Polaroid materials and processes. Joining Polaroid Corporation in 1978 as senior photographer, he later became Director of the legendary 20×24 studio. He is currently working on a feature length documentary titled ‘Camera Ready: The Polaroid 20×24 Project’.
“’What is an abstract photograph?’ My projects usually begin with a series of questions.”
