International Women’s Day 2026
Sunday 8 March – celebrate with us at the museum on Saturday 7 March
Celebrate International Women’s Day with Us 🎉
Join us at the museum to celebrate International Women’s Day – great photography, new museum display, new feminist initiatives, design project for teens and celebration with cake and bubbles.
- New exhibition: Be among the first to see Colour Me Modern: Claire Aho and the New Woman, a vibrant exhibition exploring how Finnish photographer Claire Aho captured the optimism of post-war Finland.
- New Initiative: We’ll also be launching Missing Persona, a new archive project uncovering the sitters (of women photographers) who were framed in terms of the men in their lives.
- Museum Display: “Our New Stuff by Extraordinary Women”. Our volunteers have curated a special collection display of recent acquisitions, offering a glimpse into the growing museum collection and the stories behind the works.
- Activity: Visitors are invited to take part in our creative washing line, inspired by Lisl Ponger’s Die grosse Schere. Add your own design or message in response to the gender inequality and help create a collective artwork inside the museum.
And for younger visitors and teens: design your own magazine cover inspired by the bold colours and confident spirit of the exhibition.
Come and celebrate the many ways women shape culture.
Everyone is welcome.
