Gloucester Contemporary Artists Trail August 2024

Elisabeth Buchmeyer-Lewis’ unseen photographs, August 1st – 31st, The Eastgate shopping centre

Hundred Heroines is exhibiting a series of images across the Eastgate Centre’s disused shop fronts over August as part of Gloucester Contemporary Artists’ first ever Open Studios in the City Centre. Coinciding with Gloucester’s annual Retro Weekend, recently discovered and digitised photographs of cars, mod fashion and gaudy patterned tights from the Elisabeth Buchmeyer-Lewis archive will be shown to the public for the first time since Elisabeth’s passing.

University of Gloucestershire’s MA illustration students have been working on a live brief with Hundred Heroines to create riso printed infographics about Elisabeth’s life which will be displayed alongside these prints. In addition, our two work experience week placements this year have assisted in the curation of these images, and our amazing volunteers have been responsible for digitising the images at a high quality.
